First Flush Diverter

First flush diverters capture and hold the first, dirtiest run of rainfall, the water that carries the dust and sediment washed off your roof, so it is kept out of your tank. Options range from simple chamber-style diverters through to in-ground and commercial setups, with manual or automatic resetting between downpours.

Step 5

Clean: Divert the first flush of rainwater

Even with leaves filtered out, the first rain to hit your roof washes off fine sediment, dust and dissolved contaminants. Diverting this first flush away from your tank is one of the most effective things you can do for water quality, and one of the most commonly skipped.
