We’ve developed the 12 Steps you need to deliver quality rainwater (and lots of it)
What you need to succeed
Follow the 12 Steps to ensure your rainwater harvesting success. This approach has been built from over 35 years of knowledge and experience, cultivated from a devotion to the craft of Rain Harvesting™ and rigorously testing the process in the harshest environments.
How can we help?
Understand your rainwater needs
Calculate how much rainwater you need, how you plan to use it, and what average rainfall you can expect. Knowing this shapes your entire system.
Store your rainwater
Choose the right storage vessel for your volume requirements and decide on the best location based on proximity to your collection area.
Assess your rainwater collection area
Audit your property, including roof materials, overhanging trees, gutters, and flaking paint. Address any risks and install gutter mesh to reduce blockages.
Clean: Filter leaves and debris
Keep large debris like leaves out of your system by installing Leaf Eater rain heads and Maelstrom filters at every downpipe connection.
Clean: Divert the first flush of rainwater
The first water off your roof carries the highest concentration of contaminants. A First Flush Diverter automatically channels this away from your tank.
Secure your rainwater system
Keep animals, insects, and sunlight out with tank screens and insect-proof screens. Prevent stormwater backflow with an Air Gap.
Decide on a pump or gravity-fed system
Research the best way to draw water from your tank for your specific setup. Talk to a specialist if you are unsure which approach suits your property.
Manage standing water
Drain wet systems regularly to prevent anaerobic fermentation. Block sunlight with a Solar Shield to stop algae growth in your tank.
Final stage rainwater filtration
Decide how much filtration your water needs based on its intended use. Remove tannins for laundry and filter thoroughly if you plan to drink it.
Optimise your overflow
Ensure you are plumbed into a stormwater main with an Air Gap, and that your outlet capacity matches your inlet to handle heavy rainfall.
Monitor your water level
Track your tank levels, inflows, and outflows over time. Knowing your water balance helps you plan usage and spot any changes in your system.
Care for your system
Regularly check for leaks, entry points for pests, and contaminant build-up. Clean your system periodically and upgrade components as needed.
